After slaughtering your way through the rest of The Nook in Darksiders 2, you will find yourself faced with what is easily the hardest boss yet in the game: The Construct Hulk. The Hulk is a very formidable challenge as he has a plethora of ways to punish a player if they get hit any of his attacks. With this guide you will soon know every trick the Hulk can throw at you as well as how to avoid them and use some tricks of your own to bring this monster down.
Ground Pound: The main attack of the Construct Hulk is one that is a very close range attack, but will be used frequently against the player if they are staying at ranged. It is an attack where he ground pounds with both fists to throw a shockwave out to the player. This attack can –not- be dodged when at close range, and needs practiced timing at distant ranges to be able to dodge it. Dodging is as simple as timing your jump to avoid the shockwave as it comes to you.
ShadowBombs: Each time the Construct Hulk uses his ground pound attack there will be bombs dropped from the ceiling. These are called shadowbombs, and are the main way to damage the hulk. What you need to do is snag them off the ground and throw them at the hulk. They will damage him, and bring him down to ground level for you to get some damage in. Just practice being near him when the bombs go off in order to have as much time as possible to lay into the Hulk when has been brought down by bombs. As per usual with bombs, holding these too long will cause them to blow up in your hand and damage you.
When the Construct Hulk stands back up after a session of being on his knees, he will stomp the ground and charge forward very quickly. Be ready to dodge this, as being hit stuns you and leaves you vulnerable to several follow up attacks. If you can dodge this charge reasonably well, then this fight becomes easier to handle as the rest of his attacks will not damage a player staying at range.
Beating The Hulk:
As said: a player who stays at range is nearly immune to every attack except for the shockwave of the ground pound. Therefore, the best strategy is just to stay at range, time your jumps to avoid the shockwave, and quickly land a shadowbomb onto the Construct Hulk to get him down to your level and open to your best damaging abilities. If you are having issues landing the bombs onto the Construct Hulk mid fight, try clearing out the minions around the bomb before throwing it.
The fight is a pretty straightforward fight when handled in this manner, as the concept of “dodge everything until you reveal the vulnerable spot” is not a new one. Just practice dodging the shockwaves and landing shadowbombs, and you will be sticking your blade into the Hulks throat soon enough.
There is one teaser to be found in this fight, and that is the chest that is hidden away behind the construct. This chest is visible to the player when they first wake the Construct Hulk, but cannot be accessed until after the boss is defeated and you visit room a second time.
