A new leak posted on the Ubisoft forums gave us a preview of what the future (or past) of the Prince of Persia serieswould look like.

The leaked screenshot, posted by a forum member called blueobelix, shows a character, possibly not the Prince, with his back turned, seemingly addressing a group of people from historical times.  The photo was supposed to be for the failed “PoP Zero 2” reboot, as indicated on the text at the bottom.  Sure doesn’t sound like the reboot we had heard about, the one set in modern times.  Nope, doesn’t sound like that mercifully-canned project which would’ve involved the eponymous Prince of Persia possibly doing battle with modern-day thugs, a sequel I wouldn’t have been too crazy about.  The question now is this: is this screenshot another sign a new PoP title is in the works?

Two months ago, shortly before E3 2012, several images were leaked on the NeoGAF forum, including one with the cryptic line “judgment is coming” in it.  These images suggested a radically different Prince – a bald-headed dude without his signature long black hair from previous iterations.  Yet E3 2012 came and went by us without any mention of a new title – rumor had it that a new PoP was being shown secretly to journalists at E3, but that’s just about it.  The way I see it, the leaked photo from this weekend doesn’t tell us anything yet.  Mainly, it’s a bit inconsistent considering the reports of said modern-day PoP.  A lot of Ubisoft forum regulars appear to be looking forward to a modern-day reboot. For the sake of fans of the original concept, let’s hope Ubisoft sticks to its guns and keeps this period piece of a game in the same period as it used to be, if they indeed have a new title in store for us.
