So, few days ago a colleague of mine posted an article on Diablo 3 explaining why she does not like the game, to be honest I can not totally agree with the overall statement of the article. Yes some bugs were there but the ones that were named did not made much difference to me. So the time came for me to cry on “digital shoulder”:
1. Permanently online
I will not post here errors of ”servers down” or anything like that, rather I will mention that while playing on EU servers, being in the middle of EU with 25 mbps connection, my best ping was 80 from time to time. There were quite significant parts of game where I had ping around 300. As one of my friends cleverly said “What was Blizzard thinking about when making you dodge attacks in 2ms, while giving you a 3ms delay” - exactly explains my feelings. Also, not being able to play the game while offline… will really make you mad when your connection goes down. In addition to this, I have noticed that if I left the game for like 5 – 10 minutes, to refresh myself – i got disconnected from server! in the middle of dungeon for example!
2. Character Build/Stats
I could leave this chapter empty, thing like that is non-existent in Diablo 3. I understand that 8 years of WoW and Starcraft 2 programming, will mess with your head really hard. But giving me WoW skillbar system? In my ARPG Game? Why?
The character development is as linear as the Diablo 3 story. If somebody will try to argue “But Vlad, there are runes… and such” – you know that this is total BS. No variation of character build at all!
Could please someone explain to me – how is it possible that dps of double-handed sword is increasing damage of my magic? How is it possible that while playing Witch Doctor, i was running 30% of the game with cross bow? Why am I able to use it? Where are stats limitations? Str and Dex requirements for certain items…rings a bell? Oh I forgot … you do not have any points to tweak your character.
Though there is one things that they could take from WoW, while they were copying skill-bar – possibility of skill-bar switch? As a With Doctor i used one skill set for dungeon run, and totally different skill set for Bosses. So before each Boss fight i had to re-do my skills, wait for them to get from cool-down… kill the Boss and do the same again back to my “dungeon skill-set”.
I wanted to slay an Arch-Demon, not a mix of Alien and Sigourney Weaver.
Diablo 1, was dark and creepy. Diablo 2, was dark with good atmosphere. Diablo 3… suddenly, associations like Teletubbies, unicorns, Walt Disney, Little Mermaid come to mind.
Resurrecting Butcher? Come on?! Out of ideas? In a hurry?
When Diablo 3 was planned to come out, I was thinking to myself – Wow… guys making Torchlight 2, Drim of Dawn and Path of Exile – must be totally crazy. How they can even hope to succeed when such a legendary title like Diablo 3 is coming out? Why they just dont stop what they are doing and bow before the might sequel?
7. End Game
Everyone has seen the final video after you slay Sigour…, sorry Diablo. I suppose it is not only my opinion when i say that there will be Diablo 4.
I will not go over issues like RMAH. If I take into consideration that i have paid nearly 60 EUR in EU for Diablo 3 (which i can not play offline…), suggesting to me to spend additional money to buy gear seems just ridiculous. But i suppose issues like this and late PvP, bugs etc. are known to all of you so no reason to go over them again.
Blizzard had some outstanding games in the past, but lately – it seems that they are in a constant hurry and out of ideas.
Dear developers of mentioned games, please hurry, I want to give my money to you, so I can wash away the horrible after-taste of a failed sequel to a cult game.
