Just a few days ago, fans of the Battlefield series were excited to see this line on the pre-order splash for Medal of Honor – Warfighter – “Pre-Order Today for Exclusive Battlefield 4 Beta Access.” Unfortunately, that screen is nowhere in sight as of today, as it looks like EA Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment (DICE) removed the screen as well as anything else alluding to a new title in the Battlefield series.
Was it a case of an overzealous website administrator jumping the gun on DICE, or do Battlefield’s developers want gamers to temper their expectations? Let’s face it, Battlefield 4 may be a ways to go before being ready for release. There are three Battlefield 3 expansion packs due for an eventual launch, namely Armored Kill, Aftermath and End Game, so it may be quite a while before a next-generation Battlefield title becomes a reality.
As for Warfighter, there are two versions available on the game’s pre-order page. The Limited Edition, which costs $59.99, includes the Navy SEAL Sniper, a character that would now be available immediately to gamers who pre-order the title. The Digital Deluxe Edition costs $69.99 and unlocks the Navy SNEAL Sniper, the British SAS Special Ops and the Russian Spetsnaz Alpha Group Heavy Gunner on the first day of gameplay, plus a digital soundtrack. Medal of Honor – Warfighter will be released for the PC on October 23, 2012.
Meanwhile, Battlefield fans can take consolation in the fact that DICE has recently confirmed the launch schedule for one of their new DLC packs. Battlefield 3 – Armored Kill includes Iran’s Bandar Desert, which is supposedly the largest map in the history of the Battlefield franchise, and is slated to be released in September. The expansion pack also includes three other maps and is supposed to maximize “vehicle gameplay”, especially when it comes to long-range movement.
