Even before the 2012 San Diego Comic Con kicked off, rumors had been floating around about a new video game starring Marvel Comics anti-hero Deadpool. Now it’s official – Activision Blizzard subsidiary High Moon Studios has just created a teaser website for the Deadpool game, complete with teaser video and pre-order page. More importantly, the game has been formally announced at Comic Con and slated for a tentative 2013 release.
Based on what we’ve seen on the teaser vid, this title shows a lot of promise. It’s got the chimichanga references down pat, and comes replete with fast-paced action and Deadpool’s signature off-color wit. That said, it’s reasonable not to expect an “E” rating from the ESRB for this one – the video contains enough mild profanity and mammary gland references to make conservative censors blush. The video is funny, it’s exciting, and contains all the edginess and irreverence a Deadpool fan could want. And while not announced on the website, long-time Deadpool voice talent Nolan North will be back to bring life to the Merc with a Mouth. We’re excited already about what High Moon has in store for us – this is, after all, the same company that released Transformers: War for Cybertron in June of 2010.
Further details on the game are, as expected, still very sketchy. Marvel officials did not delve much into the technical aspects of the Deadpool game, so we still don’t know for sure whether this title will be available for the Xbox, PC, PlayStation or whatnot. The pre-order page on the website simply says “Coming Soon”, though there’s an entertaining piece on chimichangas that’s worth checking out – provided you’re not the type who gets easily offended. In any case, this should be one of the most anticipated titles of 2013, and once we gather up more details on Deadpool’s video game debut as a “leading man”, we’ll be filling you in. In the meantime, we’ve got a few screen caps below for your enjoyment, including a couple from the trailer.
