Out of all the indie developed titles on the horizon, Hawken is looking to be the best of them. Blending fast-paced shooter mechanics with intense mech gameplay, Hawken looks to redefine what it means to be an indie game. Developed by the up and coming Adhesive Games and built on the powerful Unreal Engine 3, Hawken looks set to bring an entirely new way to experience mech combat that the likes of MechWarrior introduced to us so long ago
Adhesive Games isn’t your run-of-the-mill developer either. Although Hawken looks about ready to ship from appearances alone, the small team of developers is taking their time. Refusing to conform to the typical standards of game design, lead designer Khang Le has previously said that he feels rushing the team and demanding long hours only results in an exasperated team and a passionless product. You can’t blame the guy; Adhesive Games consists of a small, but talented team of like-minded individuals, and half of the reason that Hawken looks as good as it does is a result of the team’s cohesion and drive.
Recently, Hawken has become a free-to-play title, and although the game isn’t slated for release until December, Adhesive has announced that there will be a closed beta, with sign-ups open right this very second. As of now, the only announced platform is the PC, but certain sites, including IGN, have listed the title as also being in development for the Xbox 360. Adhesive has yet to discuss whether or not such assumptions are true, but one can only hope that Hawken reaches as broad an audience as possible when it drops this winter.
