Well, we’re there, the final piece of the puzzle, the Terran part of this quick look at how to get out of the low leagues in SC2. As I see it, Terran was by far the easiest race to go with it the lower leagues, although, to master Terran is hard, if not the hardest race. The general idea as a Terran is to keep it simple, your basic bio units counter most builds, not all, but 85% of them. But to do well with bio you need a heavy economy as your units are very mineral consuming. Keep in mind though, you do not need more then 3 gas geysers for any game. For a more detailed explanation of how to manage your macro take a look at the Zerg tutorial, but keep in mind to add mules to it, as well as use your energy for the occational scanns which may be required.

So to break it down to the basics, forget all about mech units and fancy air units, the only air unit you will be using are Medivacs. You may consider a few Vikings if you are facing a large amount of Colossus or Broodlords, but appart from that, stay away from high tech units. What you wish to do as a Terran is to start off with a simple 3 Barracks opening, 2 with Tech labs and 1 with a Reactor, from there you wish to expand at 5:40 and transition into 6 Barracks 3 with Tech labs and 3 with Reactors. Your goal is to swarm your opponent, so keep expanding at every 5 minute mark and add four more Barracks every time you add one more base once you’re on 2 bases or more. Keep the amount of Tech labs and Reactors even at all times as you want to be producing one Marauder for every two Marines.

Sometime around the same time as you take your second base you wish to get two Engineering bays and a Factory, the factory is simply there to give you access to Armory and Starport, as you do want Medivacs and +3 weapons +3 armor. Make sure to add a Reactor to you Starport as you wish to produce Medivacs two at a time untill you have 8 – 10 of them. If you execute this properly you will be maxed out at around 15 minutes, and on three to four bases. Take into consideration that even if you have nothing but Marines, Marauders and Medivacs, you will still be having twice the army supply of your opponent at this time in the lower leagues, so you will easily overpower them.

And in most cases early aggression will not be a problem as on three Barracks you produce enough units to hold off anything as long as you research Concussive Shells for Marauders really early. With this build and similar build you will not have to focus much on unit control att all as you will be steamrolling your opponents anyway. Although if you wish to make it even more simple you may add only one Tech lab to your Barracks (only to get stimpack and combat shield) and just build Reactors on the rest of them to push out nothing but Marines at all times, although it is slightly more safe to go Marine, Marauder, Medivac instead of Marine, Medivac. But the choice is all up to you.

Keep in mind that your macro is the key to succeeding in the lower leagues and never change your build in the middle of the game, yes there are situations where you need to adapt, but in that case just keep to your plan and add a few additional higher tech units at the side of your regular build, as you will remax quicker than your opponent and therefor you have the upper hand.
