Protoss is the race who seem to be struggling most at the moment, at least on higher levels, simply because they have no answer to some strategies. Take mass Roaches as an example, it is not something that Terran have a hard time against as bio mech rips through it easily, but for Protoss there is no real answer to it, you could go with a massive amount of Immortals, but that is highly cost ineffective, as well as if they transition into something lighter you are way behind. Mass Mutalisk is another problematic strategy to deal with, as Protoss do not have the same mobility as the other two races, yes blink Stalker is one way to deal with it, but compared to Marines they’re still weak against Mutalisks, and what makes it even worse is the fact that the protoss fleet is not up to par at the moment.

This does not make it impossible to play Protoss though. But you need to be more aware of some things, versus Terran you are rather evenly matched if you can hold off the first bio attack, but the problem is Zergs. Well, anyway, for the general introduction, see part 1, as every basic thing you need to keep in mind are already written down there. For Protoss we will instead take a closer look at what to do against different races, as you are kind of limited at the moment. You will be able to just out macro people in Bronze and Silver league, but past that there will be matches where you actually have to play smart, this does not include picking up the hardest unitcompositions ever though.

As Protoss there are a few do and do not scenarios, and we will go through them all. First of all, do not resort to cheesing, yes Protoss may be built for it, but you will never get better by cannon rushing every game. Also you wish to stay away from one or two base turtling behind a million cannons, build one in your mineral line if you are afraid of Banshees or Mutalisks and one at your front, you do not need more, if you decide to spend thousands of minerals on cannons you will be so far behind on army supply that those cannons do not matter when say the Terran bioball rolls in through your base. The last thing you do not wish to do is turtle your base and build some riddiculus composition like Voidray, Colossus and Immortals, at least not against Terran, I have faced that so many times, and even as pure bio it is really easy to deal with and will most likely just end up as another loss in your statistics.

What you wish to do is pick a build like 3 gate + robo (recommended) or 4 gate (a viable build for low leagues at all times) and just practice that, regardless of what you face off against. 3 gate robo and early expand is probably the best option, against Zerg you may wish to go with some kind of 4 gate all in though, as you can not spend too much time building up or you will be overrun. And remember those forward pylons, if you forget those, you will be at a disadvantage when a big fight actually happen, Protoss greatest strength is the fact that they can replenish their army instantly just outside the enemy base, do not forget to utilize it. But remember to keep it simple at first, as once you go with something complicated your macro will begin to slip and that’s when you’re doomed to lose.
