I guess most gamers have played one of the Age of Empires games at some point, after all it has been a fun game series all the way. Well, the latest part is Age of Empires Online, and it’s basically a multiplayer version of Age of Empires 3. In other words you build your own home city, which will work as a base where you upgrade units and building etc. and then you do battle, either by questing, scirmishing against the AI or playing PvP.
There are four playable civilizations in Age of Empire Online, the Celts, Greek, Egyptians and Persians. Appart from the Persians every civilization’s home city start at level 1, or level 3 if you chose to skip the tutorial, Persians on the other hand start at level 20. The reason to this is the fact that some people wish to go PvP straight away, and in that case they can chose Persians, as you may not join PvP matches before level 20.
Well, introduction aside, why this game is so addictive is because you can actually see yourself progress, your home city grows larger for every level up, you need to farm items for your units to make them stronger or you will fall behind, and believe me, as it might not be the hardest task, it is really time consuming, and once you get hooked on it, you may as well spend 2 days on it without noticing. The quests and storyline adds to it, for some reason it’s a little like roleplaying an entire civilization.
Of course, as every other game it’s not perfect, but it’s a good waste of time for a few days or weeks, and it is perfect for those who wish to start streaming, as it does not require much from your computer, so it is not hard to set up say xsplit to work along with it without you computer going bananas.
