The Diablo 3 beta left an impression of great potential, it’s the game everyone has been waiting for since June 28, 2008 when it was announced. Yes the release date has been pushed forward numerous times, yes the Diablo community is growing impatient, but May 15, 2012 is the set release date, so the wait is finally over. Compared to Diablo 2 there are a few changes to the characters you can play. First of all, this is the first Diablo game where you may chose to play as a male or female regardless of what character you chose to play, as well as the Amazon, Necromancer, Druid, Paladin and Assassin characters have all been removed to make place for three brand new heroes, Demon Hunter, Monk and Witch Doctor. The only two dear characters from the previous games which will be playable in Diablo 3 are Barbarian and Sorcerer.

The beta campaign was quite short so it was hard to form an opinion about how the actual game will be, in other words, it should’ve been longer than 25 – 30% of Act 1. But on the other hand it’s understandable that Blizzard didn’t want to release too much of the game in the beta, as the game is built in such a fashion that if people got to finish the campaign in the beta, they may not buy the retail version.

The gameplay itself has gotten way more interesting since Diablo 2, the Diablo 3 development team seem to have put their heart and soul into making the game truly appealing both to hardcore Diablo fans and everyone who is new to the franchise. In a sense the game is a little easier than the previous two, but the Diablo feeling is still there. As said already the beta was rather short so it’s hard to tell how the actual retail version will be, but as of right now, it looks promising, we’ll just have to wait and see, if not sooner, we will find out the truth May 15, 2012.
